cause and effect

WHY IS ENGLISH TOO DIFFICULT FOR NON-ENGLISH MAJOR?
Nowadays our country is step by step to integrate with the world, so people have a lot of chance to find their jobs. However to be found a good job with high salary, the first factor is foreign language especially English. In recent research, it is proved that Vietnamese students who are non-English major especially technical majors feel too difficult to study English. So what the reasons make them difficult to study English?
The first important cause is that some students have wrong attitude about studying in English. Some students think that English is not important subjects, so they almost don’t spend their time on studying English. Most of students study grade A and B, so for them English is like a compulsory subject which they have to study to enough credits to be graduated. They don’t review English during a semester or longer until the exams come near. Gradually, their English knowledge will be lost, which leads them become more and more difficult to study English. My brother is an example. He says that: “English isn’t important. By choosing any answers, I pass many English exams so we needn’t study English.” Other students know that English is important but they think that at this time they should spend time on deepening their professional knowledge and after graduating they can work and study English at the same time. So Instead of spending 1 hour on studying English, they use that time just study their majors. When they have exam, they only need to cheat or copy their friend to enough mark to pass. With this way, English will become more and more difficult for them.
Another reason makes students difficult to study English is teaching styles. Some English teachers have boring teaching styles, so students seem not to be interested in English. English is a foreign language so if teachers don’t know how to attract students’ attention, the classes are boring and students don’t want to concentrate on the lessons. And students’ studying isn’t effective. For example, during grammar classes, teachers just sit at teacher tables and assign exercises with students and until the end of periods, teachers read the answers. How do students feel? Some studious students try to do exercises but gradually they are discouraged and want to stop studying. Other students feel tired and fall asleep. So they can’t apprehend the lessons. Beside, some teachers give too difficult requires. As we know that most of students study grades A and B, hence they don’t have more English knowledge even basic one. When teachers give difficult exercises, students feel discourage because they can’t finish assigned exercises. After these problems are repetitive, students think that though how they try, they also couldn’t understand anything. As the result, they ignore and give up studying English. In the end, students also feel difficult when they study English.
Finally, English itself is a complex language. It has many vocabularies. In order to do some exercises, students have to have a little word to understand contents. But technical students couldn’t learn by heard English words. Maybe they’re good at machines knowledge, but they’re afraid of English vocabularies. Like studying theory subjects, students often feel sleepy when they study new words. That is the reason why they can’t improve or study well English. Furthermore, English grammars are complicated especially tenses. Some tenses are really the same others, so students are quite difficult to distinguish. Although students know definition of each tense, when they use, they also feel puzzle. Using wrongly many times, many students think that English is too difficult for them to study, and it’s useless to go on studying English. Therefore in English classes, some students don’t pay attention to the lesson or other students even don’t attend. With situation, how are students’ English? It’s easy to recognize that students are still bad at English.
In conclusion, non- student English majors have to face many difficult problems when they study English. However, English is an international language and it affects many aspects of their future job. So from now students should try their best to improve their English.

Argumentative essay: SHOULD EXAMS BE ABOLISHED?
According to a recent survey of “Education Newspaper”, what cause students to be frightened the most is “exams”. Some students say that the exams should be abolished because they make students absolutely anxious and stressful. However, the exams play an important role in school’s life and also have many advantages. So I believe that the exams should not be abolished because of some reasons below.
The most important reason is that exams are a method to examine students’ level and .Depending on results of exams; teachers can determine how students acquire knowledge. If marks are from 7-10 that mean students apprehend well the content of subjects, teachers will give them some difficult exercises to help students develop their creation. On the other hand, if marks are below 7 that mean students don’t understand clearly the subjects; teachers can explain some difficult points or choose different teaching styles which are suitable to students’ levels. In addition, after doing exams, students can know more about their knowledge. Students will determine what are weak points, where are the holes in their knowledge. From these, students review these parts in order not to puzzle when do them later. Especially, after students have some mistakes when they do exams, students will remember them forever. I remember clearly that in high school, when I had 45 minutes exam in math, I couldn’t remember the formula of volume prism. So I got 5 marks. I was sad and I myself promise to remember it forever. And until now, I also can write it correctly. Therefore, with many advantages like those, we don’t have any reason to abolish exam.
Another reason is that exams make students to study harder. Some fast or mini exams will force students to attend the classes frequently (if students don’t want to miss them). Some teachers don’t want to remind when students have mini exams. Any time teachers see some interesting exercises, teachers will gives students do those which are like mini tests. If students don’t attend class those days, they will lose one or two column marks, which make their mid-term results low. So they have to go to class frequently. Moreover, exams make a pressure for students to study their lessons. Some students don’t want to be got low mark in exams, because it means that they fail or study again these subjects. So they will be studious to pass the exams. Others want to get high marks in exams in order to get scholarship or the excellent score-board to be got good job in future. So exams seem to be the motivation to make students studious.
It’s true that exams make students stressful and anxious. Some students say that when exams come near, they have to cram a lot of lesson in short time, which make them exhaust. That is the reason why students wish exams would be abolished. However, these pressures aren’t caused by exams but students. During the studying, students should take note the main points of each subject and review after classes. And when they have exams, they just read again but can remember the important information. They no longer feel stressful in order to cram the lessons. Moreover, if there are no the exams, how can students examine their levels? They study more and more, but they don’t know what the destinations are and how many percents they apprehend the knowledge after studying. As the result, they feel vague and bored. In the end, students’ studying will not be effective if there are no exams.
Exams are the small part in school’s life but they’re really important. They’re like a standard to examine students’ level. Although they make students absolutely anxious, they shouldn’t be abolished. And students also should have the suitable schedules to review their lesson before the exam to avoid cramming

THE BOAT RACING FESTIVAL

Tet is the time when many traditional festivals are celebrated such as singing “Bai Choi” competition, reciting poem festival…But “boat racing is the biggest and most attracting festival after Tet in my hometown. It always takes place on 6th of the first lunar month. It’s not only a chance for people to enjoy their life but also practice their health. People in my hometown prepare for it 1 or 2 months before the celebration.
To participate in this festival, people have to prepare a lot of things. First, also the most important item has to prepare are boats. With this festival, people not only use imperial boats (to have the form of a dragon) but also junks to race. Junks are simple, so they needn’t spend much time to do it, just a week. But the imperial boats are different. It takes a month to finish one because it’s really complex and requires sophistication. After finishing it, people also decorate it by painting the dragon. In addition, people also prepare their uniforms. It’s not less important things because it’s the rule. Organization board regulates that wearing uniform to recognize each team easily. Moreover, uniform is also an effective way to express the spirit and strength of all team. They should show their unification to other team, which casts a chill over their competitors. Not only the participants but also the organization committee also prepare before Tet. They are just two basic things they have to do before the festival.

Festival takes place at 7h30 in “Xuan Huong” Lake, but the participants come here from early morning. Some of them carry the imperial boats, and others carry junks, which make quiet atmosphere become animated. After finishing, they sit down and gossip with each others: “I’m too nervous to have breakfast.” or “Our team will win this race.”….time is passing and spectators are crowding round the lake. About 7 o’clock, the leader declares to open the festival. After that, each team has 30 minutes to check all things before joining the competition. The three whistles resounds in other to signal that time is up and all teams must gather and begin the race. There are 10 teams who join 3 types racing: “single junk racing”, “double junk racing” and “team- imperial boat racing”. Each member is worried. First round is single junk racing which only 7 teams to join it. They have to race in 100m and chose 3 faster teams into the racing final. Finally, 3 teams reach the destination first in final race to choose the winner. Second round is double junk racing”. Like the “single junk racing” about the distance and rules, but double junk racing has a different point which is the number of racers are two. There are 9 teams to join this round. All participants try their best enthusiastically in shouting of encourage. Final round is “team- imperial boat racing”. This is a round which is expected best. With this round, there are 10 teams to join and each team includes 10 people. In cheer of crowd, 10 teams row as quick as wind to try to reach the destination first. The competition finds 3 excellent teams of each type of racing which deserve the prizes.

Awarding the prize is the last part of festival. First, the leader announces the prizes. After that, he reads winner’s names in his list. They go down stage and give their prizes. First, second, third prize in turn are 300, 200, 100 thousand dong. Although the prizes are low cost, they are like “food for the mind” after they try their best in the competition. The leader declares that the competition is ended. “All party will end, but the longingly remembrance shows clearly on their face (not only participants but also the spectator).
The boating racing is held one time each year but it attracts a large number of people. It becomes a cultural traditional festival of residents here. It should be maintained and developed especially when Tet comes.

Teaching styles.

CLASSWORK
Teaching styles
Nowadays, education is the most concerned field not only   Vietnam but also many countries around the world such as England, China, Korea… That is the reason why experts always find many different teaching styles which are effective and suitable for students’ or learners’ aim. Here are some teaching styles which are classified according to aims.
Theory is the first teaching styles which are used schools and universities. In this style, it focuses on content. Teacher is the subjects and students are the objects. That means teacher provides knowledge with students as much as possible and student needn’t participate in class. It seems to be the impartation one-sided. Teacher just concerns about imparting the knowledge and student apprehends the knowledge needing. With this teaching style, between teacher and student have no any relationship and sometimes it makes students feel bored. However, this style helps student understand more about the contents, details, developing…It’s very useful in theory lessons such as philosophy, literature, history…. For example, when student study Vietnam’s history, with this style, student will be provide more detail information from the anti- France to American resistance war… Therefore, Formal Authority is the useful teaching style which helps student to be given a large of knowledge.
Another teaching style which is used in school is Guide. With this style, teacher is like a guide who demonstrates to help students-the visitors- know more about their lessons. Teacher also plays a center role in class. He models first for students observe. After that, he not only redoes step by step in process but also explains detail each step for students to understand essence of each problem. How about the students? With this way, students can develop and apply these skills and knowledge. They not only see but also listen teacher’s guides. It helps them be able to remember clearly.  After observing, they have to do their task. They have to themselves solve any similar problems teacher assign by using teacher’s method. In this style, student are required much participation and encouraged to ask anything they don’t know. For instance, in the making cake period, teacher makes the cake first; of course students see and try to remember all steps in order to redo it. In short, with this teaching style, students have more chances to practice and apprehend their knowledge.
Finally,  Practise is also one of useful teaching styles. In this style, teacher no longer is subject but students. He often gives for his students’ tasks and students have to do tasks individually or in groups. With this style, students can develop their creation independently and help them increase their abilities work solve the problem. When teacher assigns them an exercise which doesn’t limit anything such as form or method to do, they have to search and research the information and can choose any form to do it provided it’s correct. After finishing, teacher will give the commands their products in other to help students recognize what the strong or weak points to improve. For example, topic which teacher assigns is marketing and no limit about form, so students can do it in group as a presentation or writing or role play form provided that it’s suitable for content “marketing”. In brief, with teaching style, students can have more initiative and effection in study.
Each teaching style supports the different study aim such as theory or practice…You should chose right teaching style to develop maximum its benefit. I hope you have choice correctly.

What makes a good global citizen?

“What is a global citizen?” Many people think that global citizen is a person who has many especial abilities to save human kind like superman. But they misunderstand about this phrase. In fact, a global citizen is a normal person who can help the world and people around them by practical activities. But what qualities make a good citizen?” It’s not easy to answer. It depends on their way to help people. But in my opinion, a global citizen must have such qualities: empathy, equality and awareness.
The most important quality of the global citizen is empathy. A global citizen must be empathetic another person especially unfortunate people such as the poor and disabled. That means a global citizen is able to understand another person’s circumstances, thoughts and feelings. He puts himself in another person situation in order to know what they feel or why they like that. It’s very important because if he doesn’t understand them how can he help them? By a heartfelt empathy, he can understand how they stand a pain, so it will be easier to share and encourage them overcome the difficulties. For example, seeing a lot of children shriveling on sidewalk because of being cold and hungry after the earthquake in Japan, how does a global citizen feel? To be sure that he never ignores them. It doesn’t mean he helps ones because he is a global citizen or it is a responsibility but empathy. He knows what happened, and understand how the children feel and also feel the pain like ones. It is his dynamic make him help them willingly. Therefore, by empathy, a global citizen can travel anywhere to help anyone who needs.
Equality is the second quality of a global citizen. An equal global citizen is a person who treats all people the same without racial discrimination, skin color (yellow, white, or dark), rich or poor, religions…Provided that anybody needs, the global citizen is willing to help enthusiastically. When we need the help, although you have dark skin and I have white skin, he also gives the same help, without “special treatment” to you or me. Although a global citizen comes from Asian, he can go to Africa to teach for illustrate people by like Asian. With a child who is a victim of AIDS, he also opens his heart to help the child have a smile and not to complex in order to integrate with society. The Global citizen is like that. In his mind, there is no word “discriminate”. He knows that people all the world are the children of “mother earth”, so why do we discriminate to each other? Thank to this quality, a global citizen bring people around the world the smile and happiness.
Finally, it is also an important quality is awareness. A global citizen has to know what happens in the world, how people’s life are in other to decide his actions. For example, in the world, every 3.6 seconds has a person die of hunger and 75% of them are children. The global citizen knows that they are waiting for his help. Moreover, children are the master of the world so he not only campaigns people collect food, money for famine relief but also travels each place to support and help them recover. By the awareness timely, a global citizen can help our life more beautiful.
The global citizen is helping the world become more and more beautiful and people feel happier. We can hope that, the world will have no war, no hunger, and no diseases in short time. We are the youth so please “say “we” are the global citizen” to built a better life.

students' life in inflation

Nowadays, most of people feel stressful of inflation. It makes people’s life become more difficult. Students suffer the most serious consequences because students often depend on supporting from their parents. Some of bad effects are standard of living, studying, and transportation.
First, the higher inflation is, the lower students’ standard of living is. Inflation makes students difficult in their expenses. Prices are increasing every day, but parent’s salaries don’t increase. Then students’ expenses are also limited. A good way to save money is that choosing the cheapest food such as noodles. How can students keep their health while they eat noodles during the month? For example, 2 years ago, with 20 thousands dong, they could prepare for a perfect meal with fish, meat, egg, and vegetable. Nevertheless, now it can’t do. They only have a frugal meal- only with vegetables. At the beginning of each month, some my friends often buy many noodles to eat instead of rice. Hence, some of them aren’t healthy enough to study. Moreover, inflation makes the entertainment services’ price rise strongly. Students no longer have more chance to relax. That causes to make students easier to stress.  After a hard-working week, they want to fresh their mind. So they want to join some entertainment services and “Dam Sen”, “Suoi Tien”, “Thao Cam Vien” are some their destinations . However, the tickets are expensive, so they chose to stay at home with no relaxing services instead. We can see clearly that increasing prices have bad effect students’ health.
Inflation also has negative affect students’ studying. As we know, inflation causes the rising fees. Some students have to delay or stop their studying because they can’t afford to pay fees. Last semester, a credit cost 55 thousand dong, but one costs 70 thousand dong this semester. That means it rose 36.6%- a high rising percents which has bad affects to students. Besides, some students find a part time job in other to solve this problem. Nevertheless, they spend too much time to do part time jobs, which make them not to be enough time to study. Or other students work the night shift. They can’t sleep enough so they often drowse or can’t concentrate on their studying. With this method, students not only can’t solve their problem but also their studying become worse.

Not only face to the increasing food’s and fee’s price, students but also face to the rising of transportation price. Most of students decide to go on foot instead of bus or motorbikes to save money. Excepting for some students live in dormitory, students mostly live far from their universities, so buses and motorbikes are the best choice. However, tickets bus and petrol price also are increasing rapidly- from 16.600 dong increase to 19.300 dong and the bus ticket rose more than before 1 thousand dong. If we total all money spend on moving by bus or motorbike in a month, those are the big money. My friend say that: “I’m very tired because of walking 2 km to school under sun shine, but this is a good choice to save money”. Moreover, inflation is also a reason make the train and coach tickets increase. Students who study far from their families can’t afford money to buy the tickets. So instead of coming back their hometown to reunite with the family, they have to find a work to earn money in their holiday. Last month, a ticket of tour from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Yen just costs 130 thousands dong, but this month it increases to 150 thousands dong. My bother say to me: “the ticket price is so expensive, this summer I will do part time job and study. I miss my family so much but I can’t come back”. That is a big disadvantage; however students seem have no choice.
To sum up, students have to suffer a lot of bad consequences because of inflation. It decrease the quality their standard of living, studying and limit the transportation. So the government should have some effective methods to decrease inflation to the lowest level in order to help people’s especially students’ life have stable life.
